What a status means
Operating
Commercial or regular operation is confirmed through reliable evidence. A launch announcement is not sufficient.
Flight activity
A flight or demonstration has taken place and is supported by traceable evidence.
Testing
An active testing programme is documented. This does not imply certification or commercial service.
Construction
Physical construction or concrete implementation has begun and is officially documented.
Approved
A relevant authority has issued an approval, certification, or equivalent regulatory decision.
Announced
An organization or authority has made an official statement, but implementation has not been independently demonstrated.
Unverified
A claim is known but does not yet have sufficient reliable evidence.
Cancelled
The responsible organization or authority has officially suspended or ended the activity.
How sources are assessed
Primary sources include aviation authorities, government bodies, airports, approval registers, securities filings, and direct operator or manufacturer documentation. Independent sources include established aviation organizations and reputable specialist publications. Blogs, social media, existing databases, and aggregators can help us find evidence, but cannot independently verify an important claim.
Claims, not just pages
Different facts on the same record can have different confidence levels. An operator may be confirmed while its launch date remains only announced. We therefore attach evidence to individual claims rather than treating an entire page as simply true or false.
Corrections and history
Status changes are preserved as events. When evidence changes, we update the current state without erasing the previous one. Conflicting sources and corrections are documented rather than silently hidden.
